A Secret Most Wonderful (Suma/Open)

Sabresoul blinked and looked silently at his mother. "Oh. Oh, yeah, it's really, um... It's cool, mom. I'm happy for you." He glanced between his mother and his... Venompool. He insisted certainly, "I am. Really." Sabresoul glanced over his shoulder, and then he whispered, "I have to go." He stood and turned swiftly, loping away, and as he rounded the corner, Venompool gasped slightly.

"He's crying," Venompool breathed, his eyes wide. Maybe more's wrong with him than we think there is... Maybe he's suffering more than he's been showing us. Venompool looked helplessly at Braveheart. "I've never had a family before... I don't know what to do. Should we talk to him or give him space?"

Braveheart watched her son go, her emerald eyes sad. The flame-pelted warrior sighed, and turned back to her mate. "We should leave him be for the time being, so he can think, and if he wants to talk to one or both of us, we should let him." Oh, StarClan, help him to understand, the she-cat begged silently. Help us to understand him.

With a heavy sigh, Venompool nodded. "Alright." Then he smiled at Braveheart. A weak smile, but a smile, nonetheless. "These kits that you'll have soon... are mine... I've never had kits before. I'll know the feeling, soon, of becoming a father..." He sighed again, but this one seemed entangled with a soft purr. He licked both of Braveheart's ears individually and smiled. "Thank you for giving me a chance. You've made being in the Clans, truly, the best thing that's ever happened to me."

Despite her heavy heart, Braveheart smiled up at Venompool. "You deserved a chance," she murmured. "Just because you're Clan-born doesn't mean you don't deserve a place in the Clan. Besides, you gave me another chance at love, and at having a family." The she-cat nuzzled his cheek affectionately.

Venompool chuckled softly. "I'd never deny you a chance at love. You're everything I ever could've wanted, and then some." He looked over to where Sabresoul had disappeared. "And he deserves a second chance at having a complete family, too. I'm glad I may be of assistance to him."

"I'm glad you can be, too. Even if he's not showing it, I think he's far better of with a father figure that without one," Braveheart meowed. "When he was growing up, I was usually the only one he could turn to for advice, which wasn't always good."

Venompool looked curiously at his mate. "Why was that not always good, dearest?" he asked curiously. He couldn't see anything wrong with letting Braveheart help Sabresoul with all his problems.

Braveheart sighed. "Well, to start with, because he's a tom, and I'm not, he had problems that I had never experienced. And, let's face it, who'd want their mother being concerned for them every time they get injured?"

Venompool nodded. "Yes, I suppose..." He still didn't understand, though. Then again, he'd never had kits. He'd hardly had anything that could be considered a family, either. This Clan was his family now, though.
